Minister's Moment

In my Minister’s Moment last month, I talked about my year as a member of the Pause/Play Center for Preachers Cohort over the last 12 months. With everything I have learned and experienced, I believe it is important that all people of faith – not just clergy – learn to engage in pause (sabbath) and play as part of our deep lives of faith.

Pause is more than just sitting quietly and listening. Play is more than building with Lego bricks. Pause is for more than just the retired. Play is for more than the young. Pause and Play can help us connect with the Divine in ways that we may have never imagined.

So, I want to invite us to experience just that. We will have three weeks of learning more about pausing and how it can lead us to be more aware of the world around us, how it invites us to truly rest, and how it invites us to connect more deeply with God. We will also have three weeks of learning about play – defining it, understanding it through our adult lenses, and how it can both heal our souls and, like pause, connect us to God.

I am looking forward to sharing and learning and growing on this journey together. Pause/Play is important, and it is my hope that I can take what I have gleaned from my experiences and share them in meaningful ways with all of you, so that we can continue to grow in our lives of faith and our understanding of the love of God through Jesus. The series will begin on August 23.
