Spring has finally arrived! And what a joyous time it is! As we move into April, I am so looking forward to spending my first in-person Holy Week and Easter with everyone.
Our journey together will start on Palm Sunday, when the Chancel Choir will present a cantata, narrated by Ted Sloan. Then, on Maundy Thursday, we will have a Tenebrae service, where we will work our way through scripture as we remember the last night Jesus spent with his disciples. Then, our Good Friday service will focus on the seven last words of Christ from the cross. And, we will have an opportunity to participate in a Black Rose Devotion. In a Black Rose Devotion, each person takes a piece of paper and writes whatever they want to give to God on it. Then, it is placed on a nail at the center of the cross. After all the paper is on the cross, we burn the paper. As it burns, it forms a black rose, reminding us that there is still beauty in the midst of the pain that we all feel.
I cannot wait until Easter morning, when we will celebrate baptism, new life in Christ, and, of course, Jesus’ resurrection with an Easter breakfast, Easter egg hunt, and Easter worship. It will be a wonderful day together.
I hope to see you all there!
Love, Pastor Ann
